{"id":274,"date":"2024-03-19T16:06:41","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T16:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/raymondnash.com\/patient-education\/docs\/podiatry\/foot-problems-65\/toe-problems-254\/turf-toe\/"},"modified":"2024-03-19T16:14:06","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T16:14:06","slug":"turf-toe-274","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.raymondnash.com\/patient-education\/?docs=podiatry\/foot-problems-65\/toe-problems-254\/turf-toe-274","title":{"rendered":"Turf toe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Turf toe is an injury to the underside of the joint at the base of the big toe (the \u201cball of the foot.\u201d) The injury may involve damage to ligaments, tendons, or bone separately or in combination.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is an injury which often affects athletes \u2013 American football players such as Tom Brady and Deion Sanders, as well as soccer great George Best are among the notable sportsmen to have suffered from this injury.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"symptoms\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms<\/h2>\n<p>These\u00a0 include pain, tenderness, and swelling of the toe joint. There is often a sudden acute onset of pain during a push-off phase of running. Usually, the pain is not enough to keep the athlete from physical activities or finishing a game.
