{"id":56,"date":"2024-03-19T15:07:32","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T15:07:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/raymondnash.com\/patient-education\/docs\/podiatry\/foot-terminology-48\/joints\/"},"modified":"2024-03-19T15:07:45","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T15:07:45","slug":"joints-56","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.raymondnash.com\/patient-education\/?docs=podiatry\/foot-terminology-48\/joints-56","title":{"rendered":"Joints"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post\" class=\"doc-post-content\">\n<div class=\"doc-scrollable editor-content\">\n<p><strong>Joints in the feet are formed wherever two or more of these bones meet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Except for the big toe, each of the toes has three joints, which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>metatarsophalangeal joint (MCP) \u2013 the joint at the base of the toe<\/li>\n<li>proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) \u2013 the joint in the middle of the toe<\/li>\n<li>distal phalangeal joint (DP) \u2013 the joint closest to the tip of the toe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The surfaces of the bones where they meet to form joints are covered with a layer of cartilage, which allows them to glide smoothly against one another as they move.
